“Lost in Lisbon” for Annabelle Magazine, 2021

In Lisbon, the Pandemic pushed hundreds of families out of their jobs and their homes. On the outskirts of the Portuguese capital, informal settlements started to grow, with dozens of families building shelters with what they could find. In March 2020 Joyce's mom , Elsa, 36 year old migrant from São Tomé was working as a dishwasher in an upscale restaurant in the city center and lived in a rented apartment with her two daughters and her long time boyfriend Joy. Life was hard, but getting better. Now, a year and a half afterwards, she is living in a self constructed home and fighting to adjust to being a single mom again.
